PHHP Research Committee

The Research Committee coordinates the annual Research Day, reviews recommendations for University and College research awards and provides input on matters relating to research activities including evaluations of Centers and Institutes. There is an elected faculty representative from each department.

PHHP Research Committee overview

The PHHP Research Committee is a standing committee established through the College Charter and serves an important role in supporting the College of Public Health and Health Professions’ research mission. The committee is also an essential component of the College’s accreditation as a school of public health.

The committee consists of one elected faculty representative from each PHHP department, and one doctoral-level student representative from each PHHP PhD program. The Associate Dean for Research serves on the committee in a non-voting capacity. Each year, the committee elects a chair from its faculty members, who may serve multiple terms.

The committee’s primary purpose is to advance and support research activities across the College. Key responsibilities include:

• Coordinating and planning PHHP Days and other research-focused events
• Reviewing and recommending recipients for University and College research awards, grants, and funding opportunities
• Providing input on research-related policies, procedures, and initiatives at both the College and University levels
• Disseminating research-related information to departments and faculty members

Furthermore, the Research Committee strives to ensure alignment with local, state, national, and international research interests.

A Ph.D. student subcommittee, consisting of one doctoral student representative from each department as well as the interdisciplinary Social Behavioral Sciences Ph.D. program, contributes to the planning of Research Day and other student-focused research activities and awards. The student subcommittee annually selects a student representative and alternate to serve on the Research Committee, ensuring doctoral student perspectives are incorporated into the College’s research enterprise.

Through these activities, the PHHP Research Committee serves as a key advisory and coordinating body that promotes research excellence, fosters faculty and student engagement, and supports the continued growth of the College’s research programs.
