Researchers can receive loan repayment assistance from NIH through their Extramural Loan Repayment Program (LPR). The program supports eligible researchers with the potential to develop and sustain a successful research career regardless of current NIH funding status.

How to apply
1. Review the LRP instruction guide
2. Complete the application directly through the ASSIST portal using your eRA Commons ID. If you do not have an eRA Commons ID, or your current account is not affiliated with UF, you can submit a request from DSP using this form. The application asks for information regarding current funding sources. This information can be found through your distribution, through the UF Research Current and Pending Support form. Please contact your post-award research administrator if you have any questions.
3. Once the application is complete, complete the NIH Loan Repayment Programs Certification form with your department HR administrator.
- Applicants must work with their department HR administrator to verify their employment status, assignment and future employment options.
4. Once the application and certification form are complete, the applicant must submit the certificate form and copy of the completed ASSIST application to DSP via ufproposals@ufl.edu and copy salbury@phhp.ufl.edu.
- NOTE: You must submit all paperwork to DSP no later than two business days (November 18, 2025) before the NIH application due date.
