UF Research Opportunity Seed Fund

The ROSF is intended to provide the funds necessary to initiate long-term research collaborations across disciplines, and provide the initial support needed to ready these new collaborations for competitively seeking extramural support.  PHHP is invited to submit up to four applications for the UF Research Opportunity Seed Fund.   This mechanism from the UF Office of Research provides up to $100,000 over two years for new research projects deemed likely to lead to additional extramural funding.

Overview

The ROSF’s mission is to promote pathbreaking interdisciplinary research and new collaborations between scholars. To encourage this, all proposals must have at least two investigators from different colleges or centers, and the strength of the interdisciplinary element in the proposal is a key factor in determining the award. To learn more about this award, please visit the UF Research website.

Criteria

Proposals must meet the following five criteria:

  1. New collaborations.  Proposals must involve faculty from at least two colleges, and faculty must have not previously worked together on a funded proposal
  2. Novel research. Proposals present new and fresh ideas—not supplement PI or Co-PIs’ existing or on-going research
  3. Meaningful contributions.  All investigators engage fully and substantially. Proposals must demonstrate involvement in proposed research and allocations for funding in the budget
  4. Funding potential.  Proposals show a feasible and realistic plan for PIs and Co-PIs to continue collaborating to pursue funded research after the conclusion of the ROSF award.
  5. High impact.  Proposals address significant hypotheses, problems, or research questions that cover multiple areas of expertise and can be understood by non-technical readers

Eligibility

  • UF faculty who are eligible to submit a proposal to an external funding agency are eligible to submit a ROSF.
  • PIs can only submit through one college.
  • PIs or Co-PIs who have previously received an ROSF award are not allowed to participate in another ROSF proposal in any role for one year after completion of the first award.
  • Visiting faculty, adjunct faculty, research associates, post-docs, OPS faculty and Deans at any level are not eligible.
