There are a wide range of grant funding opportunities available to PHHP faculty, spanning internal awards within the college, university-wide initiatives, and external sources. Exploring these resources can provide valuable support for research, teaching innovation, and collaborative projects.
Internal opportunities
PHHP Research Innovation Fund (RIF)
The PHHP Research Innovation Fund (RIF) provides up to $25,000 to help our faculty obtain larger extramural research grants. The RIF funding mechanism is designed to be both mobile and responsive to the college faculty’s emerging research needs.
UF Faculty Enhancement Opportunity (FEO)
Applying to the Faculty Enhancement Opportunity (FEO) program is a chance to receive funding for creative and flexible faculty development activities like educational experiences, conferences, sabbaticals for creative work or intensive writing, and other activities that support a new direction for one’s scholarly development.
UF Research Opportunity Seed Fund (ROSF)
The mission of the Research Opportunity Seed Fund (ROSF) is to promote pathbreaking interdisciplinary research and new collaborations between scholars. To encourage this, all proposals must have at least two investigators from different colleges or centers, and the strength of the interdisciplinary element in the proposal is a key factor in determining the award.
UF IFAS Food is Medicine
University of Florida researchers are calling for a national transformation in how we address the ongoing epidemic of obesity and Type 2 diabetes, starting with a fundamental shift in how we approach health, agriculture and food. Published recently in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the article argues that fruits and vegetables must be treated not just as food — but as medicine.  Visit UF News to read more about University of Florida’s ‘Food is Medicine’ movement.
Limited submission programs
Sponsors frequently restrict the number of applications an institution can submit in response to a given funding opportunity. In limited opportunities, scholars are not applying as individuals, but as a representative of an institution, whether a department, a college, or the University as a whole – and there are a limited number of available slots for members of the UF community. This can be as many as several dozen, or a few as one, for the entirety of the university.
Southeastern Conference (SEC) Visiting Faculty Travel Grant Program
The Southeastern Conference (SEC) Visiting Faculty Travel Grant Program is intended to enhance faculty collaboration that stimulates scholarly initiatives between SEC universities. This initiative gives faculty from one SEC university the opportunity to travel to another SEC campus to: exchange ideas; develop grant proposals; conduct research; consult with faculty and/or students; offer lectures or symposia; or engage in whatever activities are agreeable to the visitor and host unit.
External opportunities
Early career funding
In a competitive funding environment, opportunities exist to help researchers at the beginning stages of their careers. Examples of federal and non-federal funding opportunities specifically geared toward early career investigators working at the University of Florida can be found on the UF Office of Research website.
Florida Department of Health (Florida Health)
Florida Health represents the vision that health belongs to everyone and every group—not just a state agency. It takes individuals, families, communities, and partnerships with local and state-level policymakers, and stakeholders to create a culture of health in Florida.
National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR)
The Administration for Community Living (ACL) awards more than one billion dollars in grants, primarily to state and local governments, nonprofit organizations, institutions of higher education and small businesses. Some are awarded in accordance with formulas (mandatory grants) established in legislation, while others are awarded in a competitive process (discretionary grants). ACL’s National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research is the federal government’s primary disability research organization.
Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)
PCORI funds patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER), issuing funding opportunity announcements several times each year. PCORI also funds projects that support CER, such as methodology studies, as well as projects that support engagement in research and dissemination and implementation of PCORI-funded research findings.
Pivot Database
Pivot is a comprehensive, searchable database that connects UF faculty, staff, students, and researchers with funding opportunities and expertise. Available at no cost to the UF community, Pivot brings together research opportunities, funding sources, and global collaborations to enhance your research impact.
